BAKAW! Games is an independent studio focused on the absurd fun when good friends get together and have a solid laugh because they have no qualms about beating them (Or…plotting their future revenge in the next round!). We produce board games and card games with quirky chickens (Or…birds…as a whole), improvisational humor, and unique concepts—with original designs by Nika.

The Roost

Mitch – The Rooster

I’m a lifelong gamer, podcaster, and marketer—basically, your all-around nerd with a strong passion for business. My love for games started early; I got my first PC when I was just four years old, which should tell you a lot about me right off the bat.

My journey into gaming began with classics like Doom and Lemmings. These early experiences sparked a love for video games that’s still going strong today (and yes, I still have those games on floppy!). Some of my fondest memories are from when I was about eight, playing Resident Evil with my parents. We’d set up on the old pull-out couch, armed with popcorn, and dive into the game—my dad and I taking on the zombies while my mom helped solve the puzzles. Those nights really solidified my passion for gaming.

As I got older, I found myself drawn into the world of trading card games, spending years immersed in Pokémon TCG and Magic: The Gathering. I loved building decks and, even more, the sense of community that came from meeting new people and playing at the local comic shop each week. I even managed to snag third place in a local Pokémon TCG tournament! But eventually, I drifted away from physical games and focused more on video games.

Fast forward to today, and while video games are still a huge part of my life, I’ve found myself missing that sense of community I used to enjoy with card games. During the COVID pandemic, I was introduced to Dungeons & Dragons, and that experience led me to PAX Unplugged in 2022. I was blown away by how much board games have evolved—from fun party games to deep, complex RPGs. It reignited my excitement for the tabletop world, and after attending PAX two years in a row, I realized it was time to bring together my business background and love of games to create something new.

My life’s goal has always been to create. While I might not have the artistic skills that my partner does, I’ve always had a knack for coming up with concepts and developing rules. So, here I am, taking a leap and making a serious attempt at creating a game of my own. My hope is that it will bring as much joy to you as gaming has brought to me throughout my life.

Thank you for being a part of this journey with me!

Nika – The Hen

Growing up in the mountain West, my love for games and drawing started at an early age. Some of my earliest memories are playing card games like Whist, Hearts, and Spades with my grandparents and cousins after holiday meals, or challenging my dad to a game of chess and 8-bit Zelda on lazy Saturday mornings. There’s something about those moments—whether it was the thrill of a good challenge or just the quality time spent with family—that still brings a warm sense of nostalgia.

Over the years, my gaming tastes have expanded, but the love for building relationships through games has stayed with me. Dragon Age and Mass Effect hooked me with their deep companion systems, while Warhammer games pulled me in with their rich storytelling and immersive worlds. And honestly, I’m the kind of gamer who’ll happily spend time picking flowers in Don’t Starve Together, just enjoying the process and the company.

I also have a soft spot for all the little things that make games feel alive—whether it’s brewing a potion for an adventuring party in D&D, healing my cult members in Cultist Simulator, cooking up a meal before a raid, or plotting my next strategic move in Civilization. I’m always there to hang out, support the team, and soak in the experience. And when I’m not gaming, you’ll likely find me lost in stacks of folklore books, doodling in my sketchbook, or spending time with my cat.

For me, games are more than just a hobby—they’re a way to connect, create, and explore new worlds with friends, both on and off the screen.
